DL-Tartaric Acid
Chemical Name: 2,3-Dhydroxybutanedioic
acid
Structural Formula:
Molecular Formula: C4H6O6
Molecular Weight: 150.09
CAS NO: 133-37-9
Properties:
Colorless crystals or white power, without odor, with sour taste, stable in air, soluble in water, ethanol
and diethyl ether. It is the compound of equivalent D-tartaric acid and L+tartaric acid, usually contains
one or two crystalline water and loses it when heated to 100°C.
Applications:
DL-Tartaric Acid is widely used in food, medical, chemical and light industry such as being
used as beer foaming agent, food acidulant and corrigent. DL-tartaric acid is applied to soft drinks,
candies, juices, cold dishes and so on. It is three times sourer than citric acid. So it can especially be
used as acidulant for wines. DL-tartaric acid also
plays a very important role in tanning, glass, enamel and other relevant industries.
