Properties:
L-tartaric acid is colorless or white crystalline powder. Stable in air and very soluble in water and alcohol, insoluble in chloroform.
Application:
L (+)- tartaric acid is used as acidulant for many drinks ans foods such as soft drinks, candies, bread and so on. Due to its optical activity, L (+)- tartaric acid can also be used as resolving agent. In chemical industry, it can be used to produce tartaric salts and tartaric ester and as masking agent for metal ion. L (+)- tartaric acid is also used as resist agent in textile industry.
